Hello! Welcome to our first installment of Move To The Beat! My name is Sailor Church, a fashion student at California State University of Long Beach, and I am going to discuss our first music artist this week. Each week we are going to discuss different celebrities, particularly female music artists, and dive into what type of brands and styles they are wearing. The goal of our website is to inspire fashion and give people inspiration for their own outfits that coincide with recent trends.
     Today I want to take a look at Taylor Swift since she seems to be very popular at the moment with her Eras Tour, recent Grammy win for "Album of the Year", and the excitement surrounding her relationship with Travis Kelce. Taylor Swift’s brand is all about being everyone’s “best friend” and trying to relate to her fans. She is known for wearing popular brands like Zara, J. Crew, Urban Outfitters, and during “Reputation” she wore Madewell and Forever 21 Hoodies. Taylor Swift is aware of who her audience is, and she caters to them whether it’s through her concerts, or style, her fans get what they want. Her fashion is obtainable and predictable to her fans, which almost make them feel like they can be just like her. Taylor wants to give the image that her fans are her friends, and dressing like them is a good way for her to fit into this roll (Business Insider & NBC News).

Taylor Swift announces her new album and she receives the award for "Album of the Year" at the Grammy's (cosmopolitan & Footwear News).

       

In October of 2023, Taylor was spotted walking with Blake Lively as they met friends for dinner. She is wearing a simple black dress, black heels, a large belt, and her signature red lipstick. With the help from @taylorswiftstyled. Taylor is wearing Aritzia’s Trix Dress for $148 dollars. The belt she is wearing is B-Low The Belts Lucas Leather Belt, which sells for $188 dollars. 

While Taylor tries to appeal to her audience by wearing brands that are accessible, she has received some backlash for supporting some fast fashion brands like H&M and Forever 21.  
Taylor has also been seen wearing more high end brands. In this photo, she is walking around New York, New York on January 9th, 2024. She is wearing Stella McCartney, Double Breasted Wool Coat, which is $1,422.00, Stella McCartney Ribbed Recycled Cashmere Sweater Dress which is $1,490.00, and Gucci Half Horsebit Almond Toe Boots, which is  $839.86 (TaylorSwiftStyle).

These are expensive price tags, so maybe we can find some knock-offs for something more affordable (Victoria Advocate & My Experience).

This dress from ASOS is now $34.39, which is a lot more of an affordable option. This coat is from Bernardo's is $119.99 seen at Nordstrom. These Dolce Vita Varoon Knee High Women's Boots are $79.19 seen at Tilly's .

To Conclude

It seems like Taylor likes to wear a mix of popular brands, but also does wear some high end brands as well. Her popularity has been driving fashion since most of these clothing items listed that she has been seen wearing, completely sold out after these pictures were taken by paparazzi. It seems like a lot of people are being influenced by her clothing choices and are adopting these pieces into their wardrobes as well.
